This week we eargerly anticipate MWC action getting under way as BYU travels to Air Force and Utah hosts UNLV. The MWC and WAC go head-to-head with two Mountain West programs hitting WAC stadiums. Oh, and lets not forget fifth-ranked Texas, sixth-ranked Nebraska, 11th-ranked Wisconsin and vote-getting Texas A&M and Texas Tech are on the slate.



The 2010 college football season kicks off Thursday night and the New Mexico Bowl will be anxiously watching as we count down to December and Bowl Season. There are a few college football experts who have declared their predictions for the postseason before the regular season has even started. Only Nevada out of the WAC was selected more than once. Two even project the MWC will not be able to fill its slot, making way for an at-large berth.



For the fifth year in a row, the New Mexico Bowl will be played in Albuquerque on the Saturday before Christmas. ESPN Regional Television announced today that the fifth annual New Mexico Bowl will take place Saturday, Dec. 18 in University Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN HD. Kickoff time is slated for noon (12 p.m.) MT.




On Thursday, July 29, youth football players from Albuquerque and the surrounding areas attended a free half-day clinic led by coaches and student-athletes from the University of New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico at UNM’s Indoor Practice Facility on the south campus. The clinic was hosted by the New Mexico Bowl in partnership with NCAA Football’s Youth Initiative for the third straight year.

Wyoming trailed by 11 points in the fourth quarter. Its offense was led by a freshman quarterback, its defense was facing the nation's leading rusher. Time to worry? Not these comeback Cowboys. Freshman Austyn Carta-Samuels threw three touchdown passes, the last a 13-yarder to David Leonard in the second overtime Saturday, and Wyoming rallied past Fresno State 35-28 in the New Mexico Bowl.



The first thing keynote speaker John Robinson said when he stepped to the microphone was, “I cringe every time someone says legend because that means you are very, very old.” But that is exactly how New Mexico Bowl Executive Director Jeff Siembieda introduced the College Football Hall of Fame inductee at Friday’s Sandia Resort Kickoff Lunch.



Wyoming head coach Dave Christensen, senior defensive tackle John Fletcher, senior wide receiver David Leonard, Fresno State head coach Pat Hill, wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu and safety Moses Harris fielded questions from the media at the Sandia Resort and Casino Friday morning.



The 2009 New Mexico Bowl participants enjoyed a fun filled evening at the Santa Ana Casino Thursday night. Fresno State and Wyoming split a pair of events as part of the bowl week activities continued leading up to Saturday's kickoff at 2:30 p.m. MT in University Stadium.



The Western Athletic Conference has dominated the annual El Pinto Chile Cookoff as Fresno State claimed the Chile Bowl and marked the third straight year the WAC has won the event.  The Chile Bowl kicks off a week-long schedule leading up to the New Mexico Bowl Saturday, Dec. 19 at 2:30 p.m. MT.
