Bowl Hosts Second Annual NCAA Football Youth Day

The University of New Mexico Hosts
The New Mexico Bowl’s NCAA Football Youth Day

Albuquerque, N.M. – July 8, 2009 – On July 23, youth football players from Albuquerque and surrounding cities are invited to attend a free half-day clinic at the University of New Mexico Indoor Practice Facility.  This clinic, one of nine free clinics NCAA Football is hosting across the nation, will be led by coaches and student-athletes from the University of New Mexico, Eastern New Mexico University and Western New Mexico University.  Participants will enjoy an introduction from University of New Mexico coaches before engaging in on-field agility drills, offensive and defensive training, and off-field character development.

“After the huge success of the 2008 clinic, we knew we had to partner with the NCAA Football Youth Initiative again this year,” said Jeff Siembieda – executive director, New Mexico Bowl. “Young players had the unique opportunity to learn from top student athletes and collegiate coaches last year, and we’re looking forward to giving more than 200 participants that opportunity again this year.  This is such a special chance for the youth in our area to take part in something like this.  NCAA Football puts on a first class event and we’re thrilled they have chosen to partner with the New Mexico Bowl again.”

Registration will be open to the first 250 youth attendees ages 14 and under.  Those who are interested in attending the clinic can register by visiting http://2009ncaafyd.theregistrationsystem.com, clicking the registration link at the top, completing the information and selecting the New Mexico Bowl location.

“This clinic is a great opportunity for youth athletes and coaches throughout New Mexico to study not only about football, but also about the moral character that will help these kids grow and mature into responsible adults,” said Bob Vecchione – chair, NCAA Football Youth Initiatives Committee.  “We are honored to be involved in this event with the New Mexico Bowl, and hope the participants enjoy exclusive access to the talented coaching staffs of the University of New Mexico, Eastern New Mexico University and Western New Mexico University.”

NCAA Football’s Youth Initiative is a $1.5 million, three year investment that began in New Orleans in 2007.  Through this program, NCAA Football strives to attract more youth participants to the game, provide them with additional motivation to pursue higher education opportunities, help them develop the necessary skills to be successful on and off the field, and help to establish a new base of lifelong NCAA Football fans.
