Over 400 players, coaches, staff, fans and media members filled the famous Albuquerque restaurant in anticipation of the evening’s main event, the green chile stew cook-off. Each school fielded a team of six cooks and were given 45 minutes to turn raw ingredients into a delicious green chile stew, one of the state’s favorite dishes. They were then tasted by a panel of judges and also asked to perform a rap and/or skit. The judges sampled Colorado State’s Green Chile Stew first while their group rapped with a little assistance from the local bassist in the band performing throughout the night. Fresno State, whose team was comprised of Chris Carter, Bobby Lepori, Joe Bernardi, Sharrod Davis, Jason Crawley and Drew Lubinsky, offered their stew next. Crawley recruited his roommate, Nico Herron, to take the mic for their performance, reciting equipment manager Eddie Brewer’s original rap, which all but solidified their victory.
