Third Annual New Mexico Bowl Field Set: Colorado State vs. Fresno State

Colorado State Accepts Bid To New Mexico Bowl

Rams Make Their First Bowl Appearance Since 2005

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --
The field is set for the third annual New Mexico Bowl now that Colorado State has officially accepted its invitation today. It is the Rams’ first appearance in the New Mexico Bowl and their first bowl game since 2005. They will play Fresno State, which accepted its invitation on Thursday.

"This is a tremendous match up for the New Mexico Bowl," said Jeff Siembieda, New Mexico Bowl Executive Director. "Two fantastic programs with exciting teams and a bit of history should provide for a great game. The job Steve Fairchild has done with Colorado State this year is remarkable. He’s got that program on the rise again and we can’t wait to host the Rams and Fresno State Bulldogs for bowl week in Albuquerque."

CSU, which posted a 6-6 overall record and 4-4 mark in the Mountain West Conference, ended the regular season on a two-game win streak. Matched up against Fresno State, the Rams are 6-5 overall, taking the series lead in the last meeting, which was a 35-23 win in 2006.

"We are absolutely thrilled and honored to accept this invitation," CSU head coach Steve Fairchild said. "We still have a lot of work to do here at Colorado State, in all areas of our program, but this is obviously a step in the right direction, and a tremendous reward for our 17 seniors, who’ve worked extremely hard during their time here in Fort Collins."

The game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 12:30 p.m. MT at University Stadium on the University of New Mexico campus and will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN-HD.

"I used to live in Albuquerque, and each of my daughters were born in the city. It’s a great place with really nice people. My wife and I very much enjoyed our time there. Our football staff and players, can’t wait to get down there. I’d like to say to all of our fans how much we would appreciate your support at the game. It’s a fairly easy drive from Denver, and we’re playing a solid opponent in Fresno State."

The 2007 New Mexico Bowl was played Saturday, Dec. 22. New Mexico defeated Nevada, 23-0, in front of 30,322 fans and a national television audience. The inaugural New Mexico Bowl was played in front of 34,111 on Dec. 23, 2006. San Jose State beat New Mexico that day, 20-12.
