NCAA Youth Football DayHundreds Turn Out For NCAA Football Youth Day
"What a fantastic event," said Jeff Siembieda, director of the New Mexico Bowl. "It was great to see so many young football players come out and get to enjoy this free clinic and get taught by college coaches. My thanks to our staff and to NCAA football for putting this together. I can't wait to see this grow in the years to come." The day started off with an inspirational welcoming from New Mexico head coach Rocky Long. Long also passed the mic on to senior cornerback Glover Quin. "I think that this was really nice for the kids," Quin said. "It was really great for NCAA football to have it here in Albuquerque, right in our backyard. The kids had a lot of fun. The older you get, football becomes more of a job. Right now it's all about having fun and I think they did that today." Throughout the two-hour clinic, the athletes worked on drills involving passing, receiving, tackling and agility. The day concluded with contests like the 50-yard dash. "We are supposed to be an extension of one's education," said Earnest Wilson, New Mexico State running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. "Working together to teach the kids of this state will only make the quality of football better. Every kid at every station said they learned something and that is what this is all about." --NEW MEXICO BOWL--
