Team Announcement Luncheon and Press Conference (Invitation Only) The lunch, held at Four Hills Country Club, is held annually to officially announce the two teams selected for the New Mexico Bowl and to give the local media an opportunity to talk to the coaches and New Mexico Bowl Executive Director Jeff Siembieda.
El Pinto Welcome Reception and Team Dinner (Invitation Only) Players, coaches, staff, selected fans and media members fill the famous Albuquerque restaurant in anticipation of the evening’s main event, the green chile stew cook-off. Each school fields a team of six cooks and are given 45 minutes to turn raw ingredients into a delicious green chile stew, one of the state’s favorite dishes. They are then tasted by a panel of judges and also asked to perform a rap and/or skit. The winning team is awarded the Chile Bowl. Coincidentally, the winner of the Chile Bowl has never won the bowl game. New Mexico won in 2006, Nevada in 2007 and Fresno State in 2008.
Players’ Hospital Visit (Players Only) - Event Cancelled Due to the severity of the swine and regular flu this season, the Children's Hospital visit has been cancelled for the safety of the children and the players. In the past, five players from each team visited the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital to sign autographs and hand out New Mexico Bowl promotional items.
Santa Ana Star Team Dinner/Event (Invitation Only) The dinner, beginning at 5 p.m., is for the participating institutions. In previous years, hypnotist Rusty Z provided entertainment during dinner, involving approx. 20 members of each team in his act. This year will be a game of Family Feud, pitting the two teams against each other. Following dinner (approx. 7:30 p.m.) will be team bowling in the Santa Ana Starlight Bowling Alley.
Sandia Resort and Golf Club Kickoff Luncheon The local and visiting media will have the opportunity to ask questions of the two head coaches, two student-athletes from each team, as well as the luncheon keynote speaker. Interviews begin at 10:30 a.m. Lunch follows at approximately 11:30 a.m., where the official travel parties for each participating school, as well as bowl staff, sponsors, community leaders and fans gather. New Mexico Bowl Executive Director Jeff Siembieda, the two head coaches and a keynote speaker will give speeches.
Pep Rally at University Stadium This event, which is open to everyone at 4 p.m., provides the head coaches, team captains and their school’s respective cheerleaders, band and mascot a chance to interact with the fans. The event is capped with a fireworks display at 5:15 p.m. The rally is located in the Fanfest lot, which is at the northwest end of the stadium. Parking is available on all sides of the stadium, except the RV lot, for free.
New Mexico Bowl Fanfest at University Stadium This event is open to everyone for free beginning at 10:00 a.m. With entertainment, food, displays and giveaways, the New Mexico Bowl Fan Fest runs the gamut in pre-game entertainment. Two stages will feature live entertainment throughout the event, one dedicated solely to dancing performances and the other for live music. The kids’ corner, located in the Northeast section of the lot, is complete with a giant slide, jumpers and a batman obstacle course. All are welcome to get their face painted and Fun Time Airbrushed Tattoos will be on hand with spray-on tattoos. Santa Claus will also be on hand in the kid’s corner. For the “bigger kids”, there will be a full sized obstacle course courtesy of the Army National Guard. *Open to public for free beginning at 10 a.m.
