New Mexico Bowl Hosts NCAA Football Clinic at UNM
Free camp for 200 area youths, ages 6 to 14, July 29 from 9-11 a.m.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- On Thursday, July 29, youth football players from Albuquerque and the surrounding areas are invited to attend a free half-day clinic led by coaches and student-athletes from the University of New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico at UNM’s Indoor Practice Facility on the south campus. The clinic is hosted by the New Mexico Bowl in partnership with NCAA Football’s Youth Initiative for the third straight year.

The clinic, one of 22 being held nationwide over the summer, will give participants the opportunity to meet and work with college coaches and student-athletes to complete on-field agility drills and offensive and defensive training.  Additionally, Coach Mike Locksley from the New Mexico Lobos will speak to the youth football players about character development and good sportsmanship, and how these skills can be used to succeed off the field and in the classroom.

“This is such a special chance for the youth in our area to take part in a great athletic event,” said Jeff Siembieda, executive director, New Mexico Bowl.  “We’re thrilled to join other bowls nationwide in providing young players the unique opportunity to learn from top student-athletes and collegiate coaches.”

Registration will be open to the first 200 youth attendees ages 6 to 14.  Those who are interested in attending the clinic or would like additional information can visit www.NewMexicoBowl.com or call the bowl office at (505) 925-5999.

“This Youth Day Clinic is an opportunity for youth football players to learn not only valuable athletic skills, but also the invaluable character-building and sportsmanship lessons from one of the area’s top intercollegiate football coaches,” said Bob Vecchione – chair, NCAA Football Youth Initiatives Committee.  “We are proud to be bringing this event to the New Mexico Bowl, and hope the young men and women who participate in the clinic incorporate the lessons into their daily lives.”

NCAA Football’s Youth Initiative is a $1.5 million, three-year investment that began in New Orleans in 2007.  Through this program, NCAA Football strives to attract more youth participants to the game, provide them with additional motivation to pursue higher education opportunities, help them develop the necessary skills to be successful on and off the field and to help establish a new base of lifelong NCAA Football fans.
